What if opera came to you? That is the question at the heart of La Lune dans les yeux – Opéra and Co, the company founded by soprano Nadège Meden [À COMPLÉTER : année et ville de création].
Opera as a shared experience
After years on the stage, Nadège Meden wanted to break down the walls – literal and symbolic – that keep many people away from opera. The company performs in public spaces, close to the audience, so that singing becomes an encounter rather than a distant spectacle. Singers and musicians share the stage with dancers and circus artists, and each project is built for the place it inhabits.
A language for every body
Two personal practices shape the company’s identity. Nadège Meden practises sign language, and integrates it into performances as a fully embodied dramatic language – opening opera to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences while giving hearing spectators a new way to read emotion. She also draws on her own experience of the tightrope, bringing the risk, balance and suspension of circus arts into the dramaturgy of the voice.

Founder and artistic director of the company, Nadège Meden continues her career as a spinto-dramatic soprano in parallel, and sees both paths as one and the same commitment: making opera a living, shared art.
